The Shwezigon Pagoda is a Buddist temple that is a prototype of Myanmarese stupas. King Anawrahta, the first king of Pagan Dynasty began construction and King Kyansittha, the third king, completed it in 1102 AD. The pagoda is believed to enshrine a bone and tooth of Gautama Buddha. The gold-leaf gilded pagoda rises in state with a blue sky in the background.
